We are preparing ourselves for the first DREAM Centre for Doctoral Training ‘Challenge Week’, running from 11-15th July, 2016. A cornerstone of the DREAM programme, the Challenge Week is designed to permit DREAM students and affiliates an opportunity to use and apply the scientific approaches and skillsets being developed in their research projects to real-world problems. During the week, the students will be able to consult with a group of industrial experts from across a range of fields and, in so doing, help develop skills that can aid future employability. The Challenge Week will also help develop a strong cohort community in DREAM, giving the students a great chance to work together.
The challenge involves various environmental geohazard phenomena affecting vulnerable communities in South London. Students will work on a series of risk challenges through the week, seeking to find ways to use big data approaches to address the problems. The week will culminates on Friday 15th with presentations and discussion.
