2018 DREAM-CDT Annual Symposium

The 2018 DREAM-CDT Annual Symposium has just drawn to most successful conclusion. The full contingent of DREAM PhD students gathered together to present, share and learn about the amazing NERC/ESRC science underway in the Centre. This year it was Cranfield University’s turn to host the event, and we were fortunate to be joined by many of the Centre’s Industrial and International Advisory board members, as well as other distinguished visiting academic delegates and representatives of many industrial and public sector organisations. This ensured a lively and informed debate around the core themes addressed in DREAM, ‘Big Data’ and the mitigation and addressing of environmental risk. As well as the presentations, all the students in DREAM produced posters, which provided a fantastic overview of all the research underway – a poster competition was kindly awarded by Jon Thornes of Cool Entrepreneurs.

Of particular note were the tremendous presentations provided by our industrial keynote speakers, whose talks of their practical experience and learning were interleaved in with the student presentations, all in sessions chaired by the students themselves. We heard from Paul Hayden of Resolve Network, Paul Smith of Arup, Martin Sand Nielsen of EIVA, and Anders Gundersen of Sensonomic.

The event was tweeted actively on our Twitter account (https://twitter.com/DreamCDT), and there are a lot of photos of the speakers there. Below are a few photos of the presentations, and the discussions between them.
