DREAM PhD student Hannah Budnitz was able to attended the recent 50th Annual University Transport Studies Group conference at University College London on 3-5 January, 2018. The conference offers senior academics and researchers of all levels a chance to present papers on both completed research and work in progress, and also offers a prize for the best student paper and presentation, named in honour of Reuben Smeed, who became the first professor of Traffic Studies at University College London in 1969. We were delighted to hear Hannah came joint second for the Smeed Prize for her paper on ‘Exploring the Influence of Weather on the Choice Not to Travel’. This work involved an analysis of broadband speeds for evidence of increased telecommuting during severe weather events.
