We are pleased to announce that the ‘2015 DREAM Call for project suggestions’ is now open and described in full at http://www.dream-cdt.ac.uk/projects. DREAM is a new NERC and ESRC-funded Centre for Doctoral Training in ‘Data, Risk And Environmental Analytical Methods’, established between the four members of our consortium – Cranfield, Newcastle, Cambridge, and Birmingham.
On the project call web page noted, consortium university staff can download the ‘Call Guidelines’ document, as well as the actual ‘Proposal form’. Completed application forms should then be passed by email to the respective university DREAM representative by 26th April, 2015. The DREAM representativecan also assist with any queries. All proposals received will be assessed and from the whole set of proposals across the four universities, 10 projects will be selected for funding – with a further 10 the year after, and a further 10 the year after that.
The website and forms identify the types of projects that anticipated, as well as the NERC priority areas to map the applications to. In summary, we are encouraging collaborative and multidisciplinary ‘big data’ and analytics research in all areas of data and risk science. Strategic areas include: real time geohazards; coupled human-engineered-environmental systemic risk and mitigation (including fast expanding and ageing populations, and highly interdependent economies); geobiophysical systems protection; natural hazard events; rapid climate change; and consequent complexities, risk and mitigation.
We look forward to receiving the first prospective project ideas!
